Delicious, I put in twice as much bacon and a full lb of beef but thats just because we’re fat like that. Hubby forgot the brats, which is what I was going to use. Personally Im using way less chili powder next time, kindof overpowered the beans to my taste, I like them sweeter but still 5 stars because everyone loved themReply

Nice recipe as is. We’ve prepared this a good number of times since it was first published a few years ago. We’ve cut back a little on the 4 sweeteners and it was still quite good. And especial thanks for not labeling it “chili”, because that one TBS of chili powder doesn’t make it so.Reply

Wow! This is a fabooo recipe. I did not use ground beef. Just breakfast sausage and bacon. I have a recipe for something called Magic Dust from another recipe for baked beans so I added that spice .. it has chili powder and other ingredients in it. No kidney beans or butter beans either. People are still raving over it. Thank you so much! PS.. I like fresh garlic and I wanted to use a red pepper so I chopped that up and sauteed as well . Extremely versatile recipe.

How much bacon crumbles do you use in place of 1/2 lb cooked bacon?
Reply
Cris says
Hi Sue!
It is really up to you. Half pound would equal 8 oz, but you can use more or less according to taste. Enjoy!
Rob says
How many does this serve?
Reply
Cris says
Hi Rob-
That will vary depending on if you are eating it as a main dish or a side with other sides. In general we say it feeds 8-10 as a side. Enjoy!

I made these to be served with Easter dinner this year. A HUGE hit, everyone loved them and they are so easy! Thanks for the awesome recipes, videos, and website!Reply

Hi Milissa-
So glad you guys enjoyed it!!

i can’t wait to fix these — i have a similar recipe i’ve been doing for years but this sounds even better. Mine uses only ground beef (no sausage or bacon – and we know that sausage and bacon ALWAYS makes things better), and it only uses pork & beans and chili beans. this will be great for our summer barbeques.

Hi Roxanne-
I would just substitute brown sugar for the molasses. Enjoy!Reply
Roxanne Porter says
Is there a substitute for the molasses you can suggest?
Reply
Jeanie says
I always use Dark Brown Sugar
