Presumed Guilty, also titled Guilty Until Proven Innocent, is probably not worth the effort for anyone except those who with a vested interest in the TV movie that bears the legend "And Introducing Brendan Fraser" (read: me), but it's a solid based-on-a-true-story vehicle for the up-and-coming actor, portraying a Brooklyn man wrongfully convicted of murder. Martin Sheen does his usual commendable work as Fraser's father, who commits wholeheartedly to seeking justice. There are no real surprises here... yet I cried anyway. Sorry not sorry, gotta stan young Brendan's attempt at Marine Park bravado (aka the borough's most stereotypically thick accent) and the many scenes of him angrily lifting weights and doing push-ups in prison.

Brendan Fraser was great in this early performance of his. It’s infuriating to see how much the justice system failed his character, especially with this being based off a real case. It was through the error of a detective and using leading questions to the eyewitness that caused this mixup in the first place. Everyone in the precinct even knew he was innocent. Frustrating that it took so long for someone within the court system to acknowledge the flawed eyewitness testimony. I’m glad his parents never gave up on getting him out, even when it seemed like he had.

wow this was really moving i love brendan fraser i also would fight 6 years for him too, martin sheen

  • Review by mattstechel ★★

Early 90s TV Movie that has Brendan Fraser (getting an "Introducing" credit here) being railroaded into serving prison time for a crime he didn't commit and dad Martin Sheen fighting like hell to clear his son's name even if takes years off his life. It's incredibly earnest and both Fraser and Sheen are very good, Fraser is convincingly scared of spending the rest of his life in prison and Sheen is (as you'd expect) first rate as the dad who won't back down. There's an amusing couple of moments where he goes to question a witness in the park at night and the guy is completely deferential to Sheen followed by a scene where he goes to the precinct and…

argh!! okaylong ass tangent but! the amount of frustration accessing this movie cost me!!!! it’s not available to stream or rent literally anywhere and you can’t t-word it either. eventually i ordered the dvd, but i had issues with the dvd itself get one: back-ordered, and two, the dvd kept stopping because of the scratches. then i washed the dvd with water and— if any of you want to know how to fix badly scratched dvds: toothpaste! it finally worked! yay! now i want to know who the fuck is guarding access to this movie so rigorously.

was it worth it? mmmmmhhh. well it’s no shawshank! the trial itself was— as someone who used to dream of being a lawyer—…

    Frase-A-Thon #31

Not bad for a tv movie. I've never really thought of The Frase as being particularly great in dramas but playing off of Martin Sheen really brought out the best in him.

1 star for his mini man bun and 1 for the scene of shirtless bloody brendan

Young BF is so dreamy as always, even if his accent comes and goes, he put so much into this "Introducing" performance!
