#InternationalWomensDay is always an opportunity for reflection. Reflection of how far we/I have come and reflection on the opportunities for growth that still present themselves today. As I reflected, I wanted to share a few memorable moments that have stuck with me: - Of my 15 year professional career, 14/15 years I worked for women CEOs! Thank you for leading by example, inspiring me, and paving the way.- To the women who lit my candle instead of blowing it out, thank you!- To the male colleagues who gave me equal opportunities, stood up for me, and brought me into conversations we are not typically a part of, thank you.- To the women motivators in my life who said "you can and you will...", thank you.- To the younger me who never took no for an answer, who pushed through adversity, and who NEVER once felt that being a woman was an obstacle I needed to overcome but rather a superpower I could use to conquer the world, thank you! Getting VULNERABLE for a second, but I promise it's worth the read.I was just thinking today about my Grandpa, the goodbye that was never said, and a regret that still haunts me to this day.It was the middle of a quarterly wrap-up. I had back-to-back meetings, performance reviews lurking, a new campaign to launch, and a business to run. I was exhausted. On one particularly busy day, I got a call from an unknown number so of course, I did what we all do, and I let it go to voicemail. I checked the voicemail after my meetings and here is the transcription of that VM, "Hey Sammy, it's Grandpa. I just got a new phone and I can do video calls now, are you free later? I just wanted you to know that I am so proud of you and so happy for you. Call me back when you can. I love you so very much. Grandpa."I was tired and didn't call him back. I said to myself, "I will call him this weekend when I have some down time." My Grandpa died that night. The next time I saw my Grandpa was at his funeral. I am not saying this for sympathy or to scare you, but I think there is a SUPER important lesson in all this that is worth sharing:You aren't too busy.That meeting can wait. Put yourself and your family first.Make time to see people you care about.Pick up that call.We all get so busy with our jobs and our day-to-day. We get so wrapped up in what's "important" in the moment that we forget what's actually important in this world. While that meeting may have seemed important at the time, I would cancel it 100x over if I would have known.Don't loose sight of what matters most because you're lost in something that doesn't. I hope you all call someone today that matters to you and tell them you love them. FaceTime if you can. Life is too short and we are not guaranteed tomorrow.
