THE FORECAST AT A GLANCE:

If you're ready for cooler temperatures and some needed rain, you don't have to wait long. But we're not quite there yet.

We've got one more hot day with afternoon showers and storms and a high temperature in the lower to middle 90s for Denver today, with our daily record of 99° (1980) not really in jeopardy.

Those afternoon showers and storms today will be relatively similar to yesterday's and Monday's, with the highest odds between 2-8 p.m. The Denver area probably gets the majority of the action on the back end of that window, which could lead to some issues for any evening plans.

Brief downpours, gusty winds, lightning, and small hail are all possible with today's storms.

Then, a sharp cold front moves in overnight, tumbling temperatures and pushing in northeast flow that'll push in clouds, showers, and a few rumbles of thunder for tomorrow. Highs will struggle to break into the low 70s, likely making it our coolest day in almost two months in Denver.

It stays mostly cloudy and cool with showers and storms around for Friday, and highs still in the mid-70s in Denver. Both Thursday and Friday will have a good chance for some beneficial downpours along the Front Range and for the Eastern Plains. Most areas should probably get 0.5-1.5" of total rain between Thursday and Saturday.

Burn scars (including the recent ones) could have some flash flooding from these storms, so it's a good idea to avoid those areas through the upcoming weekend.

We start to clear out by Saturday with more seasonal temperatures and morning sunshine, along with afternoon storms. Highs top out in the mid-80s on Saturday, and we'll be near 90° by Sunday and most of next week with daily storm chances.

MONDAY:Mostly sunny and hot with isolated afternoon storms, high 898 Mostly clear overnight, low 60.

TUESDAY:Mostly sunny and seasonal with a few afternoon storms, high 87. Mostly clear overnight, low 59.

WEDNESDAY: Partly cloudy and seasonal with afternoon storms possible, high 88. Partly cloudy overnight, low 60.
